As a continuation of the yearly "Doina Festival" (project owned by Doina, the Romanian Association), next year's theatrical project for children will be involving Romanian-Kiwi talented children, their parents and larger families and Romanian artists (actors, fashion designers, painters).The idea emerged from one of the "Romanian School" (weekly Romanian language class for children) planning sessions, when we realised that we have very gifted children who can help create awareness of our unique culture, strengthen the relationships within and outside the Romanian community and promote the Auckland's diversity of arts and languages.
The project will combine theatre for children with literature, costume design and crafting in the shape of a workshop followed by a few play performances and a small craft exhibition. Tutored by a talented Romanian actor, the theatre workshop will teach the children how to use their speech and body language to perform a valuable artistic play and contribute to their Romanian and English vocabulary as both languages will be spoken in the play.
The literary discussions based on the play, the craft ideas related to the play's subject and the costumes making will all be part of the workshop so that we ensure a great level of involvement from each participant.
The performances will be played in both Romanian and English enabling the presence of a larger audience from our community. The crafts items created by the children during the workshop will be exhibited at the same time and venue and will demonstrate another way of expression of the meanings/symbols of the chosen play.
Our theatrical project will benefit our community through:
- expressing our uniqueness as Romanians within Auckland's cultural diversity;
- strengthening the relationships inside and outside our community;
- growing our youth's confidence as talented artists and art lovers;
- integration into New Zealand's arts environment;
- creating connections between different cultures, arts and people of Auckland.
The project "Theatre for and with Romanian - Kiwi Children" will be carried out as following:
A/ - Workshop - 8 weeks (1 or 2 sessions per week of 2 hours each)
One workshop session will include: theatre lessons and play rehearsals, craft - time, costumes/scenery concept and make.
B/ - 2 to 4 play performances at the end of the workshop.
The workshop's sessions will be held at the Ponsonby Community Centre and for the productions we will hire a room with a stage somewhere nearby (e.g. Freemans Bay Community Centre or Leys Institute).

Fonduri.
Contribuiti cu gustari in ziua reprezentatiei.
